Yesterday we reported about Android Ice Cream Sandwich ported to Samsung Galaxy S II, today we got another good news Android ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) ROM is now available for Galaxy S phone.
The ICS ROM for Galaxy S is still in alpha stages, but the developers are working very hard on making the ROM stable enough so that it can be used as a daily driver. Compared to the Samsung Galaxy S2 Ice Cream Sandwich ROM, most of the stuffs are working in the Galaxy S ICS ROM except GPS, Camera, Ext. SD and video recorder which will work in upcoming ROM of ICS.
If you want to be the first to get the ICS rom on your Galaxy S phone so you can follow the Guide below on how to do it:
Step 1: Download the latest alpha build of the Ice Cream Sandwich ROM for Galaxy S from here. Transfer it to your Galaxy S internal (16GB) memory.
Step 2: Now you have to reboot your device into recovery mode. Simply turn off your Galaxy S and press Volume up+home+power button and your phone will get into recovery mode.
Step 3: Once your phone boots into recovery mode, wipe the /data, /system and /cache partition. To navigate in the recovery mode, users need to use the volume up/down switch for navigating up/down, and then either use the Home button or the Power button to select an option depending on the CWM recovery used by them.
Users can do so by selecting the ‘wipe data/factory’ option. To wipe the /cache partition; select the ‘wipe cache partition’ option. Format the /system partition by navigating to ‘mounts and storage’ and then selecting the ‘format /system’ partition option.
Step 4: After you wipe out all the required data, then go to “install Zip from SD card” and then select the ICS Rom that you have already transferred in Step 1.
Step 5: Once the ROM get installed, then simply select “Reboot System Now”.
The phone will take sometime to boot, so please be patient. If you enter a boot loop, repeat the above steps again.
That’s it Enjoy ICS on your Samsung Galaxy S phone.
I9000B owners, you can also install the above ROM based on the steps mentioned above. However, after flashing the Ice Cream Sandwich based ROM, you need to flash a compatible kernel. The compatible kernel can be downloaded from here.
