Sony supplying camera image sensor for Apple iPhone 5 [Report]

There were speculations about iPhone 5 having 8 MP camera sensor. Now Sony CEO Howard Stringer just gave a hint about next generation iPhone and iPad which will be loaded with Sony’s Camera image sensor. Sony’s CEO said their best image censor factory is affected by tsunami and shipment of camera image sensors to Apple will be delayed.

There are rumors of iPhone 5 delayed till fall, If iPhone doesn’t make appearance in WWDC 2011 this June so it might be due to the delay of Sony in getting image sensors to Apple for iPhone 5.

Sony CEO Howard Stringer said:

“Our best senor technology is built in one of the (tsunami) affected factories.  Those go to Apple for their iPhones…or iPads.  Isn’t that something?  They buy our best sensors from us?”

If this report is correct so we might see 8 MP Sony camera image sensors in next generation iPhones.
